Designing a Lakeside Home for Gathering and Connection

Designed as a second home overlooking Green Lake, this new construction residence was created to bring family and friends together in a setting that feels both sophisticated and comfortably livable. Working with clients who lived out of state and were raising three young children, the design process required careful planning, efficient decision-making, and thoughtful coordination from initial finish selections through the final furnishings.

Natural materials became the foundation of the home’s design language. White oak carries throughout the flooring, beams, staircase, and custom millwork, creating warmth and continuity from space to space. Dramatic stone installations, layered textures, and carefully considered architectural details establish visual interest while maintaining a timeless aesthetic that supports everyday family life. Design decisions extended beyond finishes to include custom millwork detailing, lighting, plumbing fixture selections, furniture planning, and exterior material coordination, resulting in a cohesive vision throughout the 5,193-square-foot residence.

The completed home balances architectural scale with inviting comfort, creating spaces that are equally suited for quiet mornings overlooking the lake and large family gatherings. Thoughtful detailing, durable materials, and a refined material palette ensure the residence will continue to serve as a welcoming retreat for generations while reflecting the clients’ vision through purposeful, highly personalized design.
